"A Widow's Game" is a dark and fascinating Spanish thriller, made even more chilling because it is based on a real story.
To me, this film is about the power of beauty, and what happens when a woman uses it without any limits. Ivana Baquero's Maje is sweet on the outside, and that sweetness is exactly what makes her so dangerous. At the same time, the movie shows the stupidity and the selfishness of the men around her. They think they are in control, but they walk straight into her web with their eyes closed, because they only see what they want to see.
That is what stayed with me after the credits. Beauty is a gift, but it is not a heart, and a person who lets desire and ego make their choices can lose everything, even themselves.
If you enjoy true crime stories that make you think about human nature, this movie is worth your evening.
